Olivia Chaney: Daughters of Memory

About the Event

This show is a meditation on the artist and the muse, past and present. Moving seamlessly through different eras, Olivia will perform new material and ideas, while revisiting beloved and lesser-known songs from her growing back catalogue.

Having just completed an album of Purcell settings and with a new folk-rock project underway, this is a chance to hear some of Olivia Chaney’s latest compositions and arrangements. Olivia will perform on her characteristically virtuosic range of instruments, from the Indian harmonium to the guitar, accompanied by long-term collaborator Jordan Hunt (violin/vocals). Expect melodies and lyrics that explore motherhood, poetry, love, loss, tradition, modernity, suffering, and redemption.

Reviews

‘Forget the labels, she is a major artist, and completely her own person’ The Telegraph (Mick Brown)

‘By turns, complex, covert and confident.’ ★★★★ Financial Times

‘Chaney presents her music without filters, and reveals herself as a major talent who embraces the past and present with confidence and remarkable skill. In short, she really is that good.’ AllMusic.com

‘…Whether she’s singing old songs or her own, Ms. Chaney destabilizes them, turning them into rhapsodic, immediate dramas, giving listeners a reason to hang on every phrase and inflection.’ The New York Times
