About the Event

A singer, songwriter and producer in full command of her craft, ALA.NI returns with Sunshine Music, an album shaped by memories of the Caribbean and a lifelong connection to classic songwriting. Balancing nostalgia and modernity, storytelling and atmosphere, she blends calypso, jazz, bossa nova and soul through her singular voice.

Since emerging with her debut album You & I in 2016 - a self-produced collection of exquisitely restrained torch songs that earned her a performance on Later... with Jools Holland - ALA.NI has built a reputation as a distinctive voice beyond easy classification. Her 2020 follow-up ACCA expanded her sound, featuring contributions from artists including LaKeith Stanfield and Iggy Pop. Along the way, she has collaborated and performed with Mary J. Blige, Blur, Nitin Sawhney, Andrea Bocelli, Chassol and Jon Batiste.

Sunshine Music was inspired by ALA.NI’s extended time in Barbados, Grenada and Jamaica, where the warmth, rhythms and musical traditions of the Caribbean shaped the record’s sound. Across the album, calypso, reggae, bossa nova, jazz and the great postwar songbook come together without pastiche, woven through her delicate phrasing and unmistakable vocal style.

The result is her warmest and most inviting album to date, carrying the spirit of the Caribbean alongside her trademark elegance, humour and understated storytelling.

“Somewhere between Judy Garland and Julee Cruise, she is a west London-born, Paris-based former session singer of Grenadian extraction who harks back to a time when songbirds glided on gentle orchestral breezes.”
— The Guardian

“A glorious travelogue brimming with warmth and life-affirming joy.”
— Mojo

“Her most radiant and adventurous album yet... her sound is rooted just as much in showtunes, calypso and reggae as it is in classic songcraft.”
— Wordplay Magazine
