About the Event
The crème de la crème of today's Cape Verdean artists come together to pay homage to the sound of La Diva aux pieds nus (The Barefoot Diva).
Cesária Évora was a remarkable singer. The Cabo Verdean ‘morna’ style of music was captured by the sweetness of her voice, recounting everything that became her legend; her taste for cognac and tobacco, her sometimes difficult existence in the islands of Cape Verde and the sweet nights of Mindelo. Since the sudden passing of the beloved singer, the greatest voices of Cape Verdean music have joined under the Cesária Évora Orchestra, performing around the world to celebrate La Diva aux pieds nus. Ceuzany, Elida Almeida, Lucibela and Teofilo Chantre take the stage as the current line up and are joined by special guest Mayra Andrade.
Cesária Évora has sold over 6 million albums garnering international acclaim including; Miss Perfumado, Café Atlantico and Cabo Verde. In 2004 the morna singer earned a GRAMMY award for the album Voz d’Amor.
