About the Event

The Quatuor Ébène concludes its Beethoven quartets cycle. For its finale, the quartet performs the “Grosse Fuge”, which the composer originally wrote as the closing movement of his Op. 130. The work proved too challenging for many of Beethoven’s contemporaries, leading him to replace it with a new finale, publishing the fugue separately. The Quatuor Ébène now presents the Quartet, op. 130, in the form Beethoven originally envisaged, with the “Grosse Fuge” as its culmination. The programme opens with the first “Razumovsky Quartet”, a work whose symphonic breadth marks a decisive expansion of the quartet form.
