Hastings International Piano Competition Winner's Recital

The phenomenal 22-year old Canadian pianist Ryan Zhu recently won first prize at the Hastings International Piano Competition with a series of compelling performances culminating in a blistering interpretation of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No 2. A recent graduate of the Juilliard School in New York, and currently studying for a Master’s at Yale, Zhu is without doubt a pianist to watch. Here he makes his London debut with a programme that includes a new work by Hastings’ patron Sir Stephen Hough, commissioned specially for the competition, as well as music by Bach, Mendelssohn, Scriabin and Prokofiev.

The Hastings International Piano Competition, supported by Steinway & Sons and partnered by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, is now regarded as one of Europe’s most important piano competitions, with a reputation for discovering dazzling pianistic talent.
