Cellofest: Metrocelli

The four cellists of the Metropole Orchestra, also known as Metrocelli, specialise in jazz, pop, and world music. They function as a band and make the utmost use of the versatility of the cello. The raw tearing noises of Nirvana, funky bass guitar rhythms, or the warm, veiled trumpet sounds of Ibrahim Maalouf: the Metrocelli add a huge dose of creativity and craftmanship to magically get these sounds out of the cello. And they make sure never to forget the cello’s poetic side, proven by their understated renditions of traditional folk melodies.
