Ellington’s Greatest Masterpiece: Black, Brown and Beige The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra

This special summer concert features the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO), with music direction by trombonist Chris Crenshaw, performing Duke Ellington’s pioneering 1943 masterpiece Black, Brown and Beige, a monumental three-movement magnum opus that was, in his words, a “tone parallel to the history of the Negro in America.” Vocalist Ekep Nkwelle and violinist Eli Bishop join the JLCO as special guests. This is Ellington’s most ambitious and profound work—a singular achievement in jazz history that will provide an unforgettable concert experience.
