About the Event

IGF’s Young Artist Platform (YAP) helps young musicians in the critical phase between the final stages of music education and the start of a professional career. The Platform provides much-needed concerts as well as a comprehensive training programme. A unique feature is the chance to work with a composer and premiere a new work commissioned especially by IGF.

This is a shared concert with Matilde Freiria and Fábio Fernandes.

Under-18s can attend this concert for free. Please book a free Under-18s ticket at the booking link.

This event will last approximately 50 minutes, without an interval.

Matilde Freiria

Matilde Freiria began her musical journey at the age of six and completed her studies at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, where she studied with Robert Brightmore. Alongside her classical guitar studies, she developed a keen interest in historical performance, studying theorbo and baroque guitar with David Miller and William Carter.

A passionate advocate for both established and contemporary repertoire, she enjoys collaborating with living composers and regularly performs newly commissioned works. In 2024, she was invited to take part in the Ex-Aequo artistic residency in Austin, Texas, where she performed and recorded a collaborative album, continuing her commitment to innovative performance.

Her programme includes the second London performance of a new IGF 2026 commission Night Sky In A Stone by Freya Waley-Cohen.

Fábio Fernandes

Fábio Fernandes is a Portuguese classical guitarist and lutenist based in London, praised for his versatility and his engaging performances. Recent highlights include recitals at the Barbican Centre, St. James’s Church Piccadilly, Milton Court Concert Hall, the English Music Festival, and a solo appearance with Orquestra Con Spirito in Portugal.

A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and the Máster Guitarra Alicante, Fábio is currently releasing his debut album with English Music Records, featuring rediscovered and overlooked English compositions spanning from the Baroque to the present day.

His programme includes the second London performance of a new IGF 2025 commission afterform by Laila Arafah.
