Two of today’s most unconventional artists are joining forces for the first time. Jennifer Walshe and Philip Venables present The Alonetimes: a sharp, funny and moving performance about the longing for connection in a world where we are always reachable, yet sometimes still miss each other.
Walshe and Venables co-wrote the libretto, composed the music and directed the production. Six versatile performers, including the Dutch violinist Diamanda La Berge Dramm, move through a universe of old loves, awkward conversations, digital traces and memories one would rather forget. The music moves just as freely: from folk dance and moments of stillness to electronic beats and techno. The Alonetimes shows how we try to find one another, online and offline, whilst grappling with our own doubts, desires and expectations. Both have previously performed at the Muziekgebouw: Venables with The Faggots and Their Friends... and Walshe with MARS for Klangforum Wien. With The Alonetimes, they bring their worlds together in a performance full of humour, discomfort and recognisable moments. About everything we share, hide and try to rediscover in one another.
