A Norwegian trumpeter and a Greek pianist: it is hard to imagine greater contrasts in temperature and temperament. And yet, Nils Petter Molvær and Tania Giannouli meet effortlessly in a surprisingly organic dialogue.
Improvising all possible directions, they explore an eclectic sonic universe where boundaries between genres blur. Even the limits of their instruments are pushed: Giannouli ventures inside her piano with various objects, while Molvær manipulates his trumpet sounds with electronics or blows directly into the piano. In a shared journey, this duo opens up an intense soundscape where rawness and poetry continuously merge.
Opening is Elliot Galvin & Laura Jurd. Composer-performer Laura Jurd's unique voice as an improvising trumpet player is at the heart of everything she creates. Her music celebrates and innovates the rich traditions of jazz and folk music, digging into something primal and earthy, whilst taking twists and turns that prove Laura to be one of the UK's most distinctive composer-performers in contemporary music. Elliot Galvin is a long-time trailblazer in the UK jazz firmament with five solo albums that have seen him top album of the year lists at the likes of Downbeat and Jazzwise, as well as being a member of the Mercury nominated Dinosaur, and collaborating with Shabaka Hutchings, Emma-Jean Thackray, Norma Winstone, Marius Neset and Mark Lockheart
