Mátyás Bartha Trio ft. Scott Robinson

In 2025, saxophonist Scott Robinson joined pianist Mátyás Bartha’s trio to record their first album together, to be released in 2026. Their collaboration spans a striking range of repertoire—from Sidney Bechet to Charles Strouse—unified by a deep attention to lyricism and musical storytelling. Robinson, known for his work with Chet Baker, Maria Schneider, John Zorn and Lionel Hampton, performs on tenor saxophone, trumpet, and the Hungarian tárogató. The Vienna-based trio, active for over five years, brings clarity, depth, and interplay to this dynamic program of original compositions, rarely played gems, and expressive reinterpretations from the American songbook and beyond.

Scott Robinson is one of today’s most versatile and wide-ranging instrumentalists, known for his mastery of tenor saxophone, trumpet, alto clarinet, bass saxophone, and more. He has performed alongside jazz legends such as Chet Baker, Lionel Hampton, Paquito D’Rivera, Frank Wess, Hank Jones, and Joe Lovano, with a career spanning over 300 recordings. Scott’s work covers an extraordinary breadth of jazz styles. Scott has received multiple National Endowment for the Arts fellowships and numerous awards from DownBeat and the Jazz Journalists Association. His recent projects, like the acclaimed album Tenormore, showcase his inventive approach, combining deep tradition with daring experimentation.

Pianist Mátyás Bartha has performed with a wide range of leading international musicians including Sheila Jordan, Kevin Mahogany, Joe Magnarelli, Scott Hamilton, John Marshall, Don Menza, Kenny Washington, Jim Rotondi, Duke Heitger, and Dan Barrett. Through the Generations program, he also had the opportunity to work with Louis Hayes, Mark Turner, and Alex Sipiagin.

His playing—known for its blend of stride tradition, refined voice-leading, and openness to diverse genres—has established him as one of the distinctive voices of his generation. He also teaches jazz piano and improvisation at the Music Conservatory of Innsbruck.

Bassist Danny Ziemann has established himself as a versatile and deeply musical presence on the international jazz scene. He has recorded with Wolfgang Muthspiel, Jeff Ballard, Dena DeRose, and Jim Rotondi, and performed with Gregory Hutchinson, Scott Hamilton, Dennis Mackrel, Bruce Barth, Alexa Tarantino, Don Menza, Delfeayo Marsalis, and Dave Douglas.

In 2025 he founded Hideout Records in Vienna, a creative space where he records, mixes, and masters projects for a wide range of artists. Alongside his performing career, Danny continues to shape the sound of contemporary jazz both on stage and in the studio.

Christian Salfellner is a distinguished European jazz drummer. Throughout his career, he has performed with an impressive roster of international artists, including Jerry Bergonzi, Peter Bernstein, Lee Konitz, Kirk Lightsey, Bob Berg, Dee Dee Bridgewater, James Moody, Fritz Pauer, Art Farmer, Clark Terry, Sheila Jordan, Kurt Elling, Walt Weiskopf, and the New York Voices.

In 2003, he was honored with the Hans Koller Award as "Sideman of the Year." A native of Styria, Austria, Salfellner is based in Vienna and teaches at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.
