About the Event
Brooklyn-born producer, drummer and artist Gengis Don brings his instinctive blend of jazz and hip-hop to Ronnie Scott’s for the first time. A master of groove and hip-hop innovation, his music is driven by the pulse of the city, where lyrics, melody and rhythm move as one.
At just 30, Gengis Don has already collaborated with an extraordinary range of artists, including Bilal, A$AP Ferg, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Marquis Hill, Christopher McBride, Pink Siifu, keiyaA, Melanie Charles, Mavi, Braxton Cook and Anna Wise. His approach is open-ended and deeply rooted in feeling, drawing on jazz and hip-hop not as fixed forms but as ways of speaking.
For this London debut, he is joined by tenor saxophonist Devaughn Durham, electric bassist Immanuel Simelane and INSXGHT on keys and synths.
“Don’s creativity often drives the songs forward with a familiar improvisational energy”
