About the Event

With a voice described by critics as “husky, mysterious, playful, clear, and swinging”, be prepared for a musical feast of jazz gems as well as original songs from New York-based singer Pamela Knowles.

Known for her vocal style that is both intimate and powerful, Pamela Knowles has had an international career spanning more than 30 years, performing with symphony orchestras in New Zealand, at festivals in Australia, jazz clubs in Paris, New York & LA, as well as producing recordings which have been met with rave reviews.

In New York, Pamela created a popular jazz residency for many years playing with some of New York’s finest jazz musicians, including Helen Sung, Noriko Ueda, Hyuna Park, Art Hirohara and Helio Alvez.

Pamela has produced three albums. Her first two self-produced records, Love Dance and Boite de Jazz place her in the mainstream of today's outstanding jazz vocalists. Her latest work, Thirteen Kinds of Desire is a unique collaboration between Knowles and Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Yusef Komunyakaa, with 13 original compositions produced and co-composed by Pamela.

“Pamela has excellent range, a very pleasant voice and delivers the poetry with conviction.”
