About the Event
Mozart’s String Quintet in G minor, composed in 1787 shortly before he began work on his opera Don Giovanni, enters turbulent emotional waters. Its intense, nervous energy, often violent in expression, projects deeply personal insights into the mind of a musician burdened by thoughts of his faltering career in Vienna. Spunicunifait’s ace players, using period instruments to bring out the authentic colours of Mozart’s string writing, open with the first of his six string quintets, a youthful work that marries the traditional Austrian divertimento to revolutionary ideas inspired by Haydn’s quartets and symphonies.
