About the Event
In a daring blend of old and new, Shetland Islands native Norman and Glasgow’s Corrie dive into the rich musical heritage of the Shetland Islands, resurrecting archival melodies that have never seen the light of day.
Norman&Corrie’s album, Twa Double Doubles, garnered praise from a diverse array of musicians, including Adrian Utley of Portishead, Lau’s Martin Green, and bass virtuoso Ruth Goller. As well as performing at Love Supreme, the album launched as part of EFG London Jazz Festival, with an album film premiere at Celtic Connections 2025. These endorsements underscore the album’s innovative approach and its potential to bridge the gap between traditional Shetland music and modern jazz and folk audiences.
Norman&Corrie’s project is a bold step into the experimental while honouring the deeply rooted traditions of the Shetland Islands. It’s a compelling listen for both fans of traditional music and those curious about the intersections of cultural heritage and contemporary sound.
Reviews:
‘It is a rare and wonderful thing to encounter genuinely original music, the salt-bite of the North Isles is thrust head-first into a brave new experimental world. Here we have two musicians transcending both jazz and folk; utterly in control, and creating a singular voice like no other’ Martin Green (LAU)
‘The folk foundations may be deep, but Norman&Corrie build a music that defies definition. Using a variety of instrumentation, they make a sound with more depth than a duo rightly ought. The effect is by turns stunning, mesmerising and dazzling.’ London Jazz News
