Lineup
About the Event
Plantfood are a six-piece jazz collective bringing together electronic and acoustic sounds, with influences ranging from The Prodigy to the spiritual explorations of John Coltrane. Their music moves between jazz, dance, broken beats and traditional folk, balancing energetic grooves with more spacious and reflective moments. Formed within the Leeds jazz scene and now based between Leeds and London, Plantfood have quickly become a defining sound in the community.
Their debut album, Carnivores, was shaped by three years of live performance and imagines an apocalyptic future where plants rise to power, consuming everything around them. Produced by David Haynes of TC & The Groove Family and Nubiyan Twist, the album moves between heavier, more intense passages and moments of vulnerability, hope and spirituality.
Having begun by making music together in a university house basement during lockdown, Plantfood have since taken their music across the country, including performances at Glastonbury. Now working on new material for their next record, they continue to explore the space between jazz, dance music and global folk traditions.
“Powerful as ever.”
— Jess Iszatt, BBC Radio 1
“It’s hard to keep still to that one, the bass and percussion alone produce enough energy to power the grid.”
— Soweto Kinch, BBC Radio 3
