About the Event
In a centralist French state with a strong colonial past, silencing the languages that inhabit it and formatting accents, Cocanha chooses to sing in Occitan. This artistic adventure is supported by their Toulouse company Dardalh, based in the territory where they live, create and act.
Their latest album Flame Folclòre (Bongo Joe Records 2025) produced by Raül Refree, placed the group in this exciting generation emanating from traditional music, like San Salvador or Rodrigo Cuevas. In this previous opus, Cocanha questions our misogyny and our relationship to the social norm by using the subversive force of the Puput, Occitan name for the hoopoe, this bird with a leaping flight and an erect crest.
This event will last approximately 75 minutes, with no interval.
The curation of Songlines Encounters is supported by the 1900 Building

Reviews:
‘The Occitan polyphonic trance of Cocanha […] Lila Fraysse and Caroline Dufau proudly carry on the Occitan tradition with a modern approach, questioning our current societies by reinventing collected folk songs.’ Fip
