About the Event
Grammy Award-winning Attacca Quartet reimagines the Baroque suite through dance, rhythm and unexpected connections in music by Couperin, Caroline Shaw, Radiohead, John Adams and Paul Wiancko.
From Couperin’s Baroque France to the contemporary voices of Caroline Shaw, Paul Wiancko and John Adams, alongside music by Radiohead and Jonny Greenwood, this richly varied programme from Attacca Quartet explores how composers continue to reinvent dance, rhythm and movement across centuries and musical traditions.
Inspired by the form and spirit of the Baroque suite, Weird Grooves traces a journey through music shaped by pulse, gesture and motion. Beginning with François Couperin’s Prélude non mesuré in a reimagining by American composer and singer-songwriter Gabe Kahane, the programme moves fluidly between contemporary classical music, indie rock and global musical traditions.
Works by Caroline Shaw, John Adams and Paul Wiancko sit alongside arrangements of Radiohead’s Pyramid Song and music from Junun, the acclaimed collaboration between Jonny Greenwood, Shye Ben Tzur and the Rajasthan Express. From elegant dance forms to hypnotic grooves and driving rhythmic energy, these pieces reveal new connections between composers, genres and eras.
Performed with the curiosity, versatility and technical brilliance for which they are internationally renowned, Attacca Quartet invites audiences on a journey through movement, rhythm and musical discovery.
This event will last approximately 110 minutes, including an interval.
