Wigmore Hall
The English Concert; Trevor Pinnock director, harpsichord; Nicolas Altstaedt cello
About the Event
A substantial book waits to be written about Trevor Pinnock’s part in the so-called Early Music Revival, a movement that saw the decisive shift in the art of historically informed performance into the mainstream of concert life. Wigmore Hall celebrates his 80th birthday in company with the period-instrument ensemble he founded in 1972 and served as artistic director for the next 30 years. The trumpets and drums of JS Bach’s Third Orchestral Suite supply the final festive flourish to an evening of musical and personal delights given to honour of one of Britain’s finest musicians.
