Top UK jazz drummer Pete Cater (ranked 5th in the world, Rhythm Magazine 2015) returns to PizzaExpress Live with his all star big band.
The show highlight and finale is Florian Ross’s extraordinary reworking of ‘West Side Story’ which is the centrepiece of the first of Pete’s new album releases.
2027 marks 50 years since Pete embarked on his journey to become one of the renown drummers following the greats like Gene Krupa, Joe Morello, Art Blakey, Philly Joe Jones, Tony Williams and many more.
Established in 1995, The Pete Cater Big Band is one of the most enduring jazz orchestras on the London scene, mixing a wide range of jazz classics, standards, and originals. Its three album have been highly acclaimed and after a lengthy hiatus the band has been back to Abbey Road studios tracking material for not one but two imminent record releases.
Unusually in today’s world Pete is neither composer nor arranger but has long been blessed with an uncanny intuition for creating great performances from a wide range of sources both on records and in concert.
2027 marks 50 years since Pete embarked on his journey to become one of the most acclaimed big band drummers in the history of British music. He is marking this significant personal milestone by releasing two new albums and presenting his live show which celebrates the legends of big band and jazz drumming. Expect music associated with Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and drummers including Buddy rich, Louie Bellson, Joe Morello, Philly Joe Jones and Tony Williams.
