About the Event

Spunicunifait closes its weekend odyssey through Mozart’s string quintets with his final essays in the form, outstanding in their creative breadth and expressive depth. The D major Quintet, composed at the end of 1790, was probably written for the former leader of Haydn’s Esterházy orchestra and pays tribute to Haydn in adopting the illustrious older composer’s style of prefacing the opening movement with a slow introduction. Mozart’s deep affection for Haydn likewise permeates his E flat Quintet, present in the punchy themes and captivating development of its outer movements.
