Wigmore Hall
Schools Concert: The Big Dreaming
About the Event
Join Concerteenies for the musical story of ‘The Big Dreaming’, for children aged 3-7 and their families.
The Cold is coming, and it's time for Big Bear and Little Bear to get ready for the Big Sleep: for bears sleep all winter long, and wake up in the spring. But Little Bear is worried. What if they run out of dreams during the Big Sleep? And so, Little Bear sets out bravely to find enough dreams to see them through the long winter. On his journey, he discovers dreams of happiness; dreams of homecoming; and dreams of hope. But with the Cold approaching fast, will Little Bear make it back home in time for the Big Dreaming?
Pianist Annabelle Lawson and narrator Polly Ives combine new music composed by award-winning Paul Rissmann, digital animations by Vic Craven, and this new book written by Michael Rosen and illustrated by Daniel Egnéus. With songs and actions to join in with and a relaxed and friendly environment, this is a perfect introduction to music, animation and storytelling.
The concert also includes Chopin’s Minute Waltz, Florence Price’s Ticklin’ Toes and Hushabye Mountain by Sherman and Sherman.
The Big Dreaming is written by Michael Rosen, illustrated by Daniel Egnéus, and published by Bloomsbury Children’s Books.
This piece was commissioned by Concerteenies (2023), and is possible thanks to funding from the PRS foundation and the Vaughan Williams Foundation. Co-created with children and teachers at Beck Primary School and Whiteways Primary School With thanks to Sheffield Music Hub.
