Bomsori Kim plays Szymanowski’s Second Violin Concerto
About the Event
Polish fireworks and a long-awaited rediscovery as Marta Gardolińska and violinist Bomsori Kim perform music by Szymanowski and Grażyna Bacewicz.
Spanish sun and Polish shadows; shimmering sensuality and sonic fireworks to light up the sky. It’s all about colour, as guest conductor Marta Gardolińska conducts a concert in which Ravel’s Iberian fantasy is merely the curtain-raiser to an evening of Polish music at its most magical – with the “electrifying” (Bachtrack) Bomsori Kim as soloist in Szymanowski’s gorgeous Second Violin Concerto. Tonight, though, it’s not only the soloist who gets to sparkle, as Gardolińska puts the full BBC Symphony Orchestra through its paces in a true 20th century classic – Lutoslawski’s dazzling Concerto for Orchestra. And together with Kim, she makes history too - with the long overdue UK premiere of the Rhapsody for violin and orchestra (from 1949) by one of the most original talents in postwar Polish music, the indomitable Grażyna Bacewicz.
