About the Event

Izo FitzRoy returns to Ronnie Scott’s to introduce Humour Me, her fourth album and a bold new chapter in her sound. Drawing on soul, gospel, blues, folk and R&B, the new material brings FitzRoy’s powerful vocals and deeply personal songwriting to the stage, with a more folk-led sound while retaining the warmth and intensity at the heart of her work.

Originally a choir director, FitzRoy’s recording career began following a formative trip to New Orleans, where she wrote and recorded much of her debut album Skyline. The record earned early support from BBC Radio 2, BBC 6 Music, Jazz FM and NPR, while her reputation as a live artist grew through extensive touring across Europe. In 2019, her collaboration with Dimitri From Paris, ‘I Want Magic’, became a club favourite and was named Mixmag’s Tune of the Month.

Her second album, How the Mighty Fall, received widespread critical acclaim, followed by A Good Woman in 2023. Produced by Oscar de Jong, the album brought together soul, R&B, gospel and funk, earning Jazz FM’s Album of the Week and extensive radio support. FitzRoy also performed on Later… with Jools Holland, alongside appearances at SXSW and sold-out headline shows at Ronnie Scott’s and Union Chapel.

Now, Izo FitzRoy presents her fourth album, Humour Me. Written and produced in close collaboration with musician and longtime collaborator Sam Walker. The record marks a new chapter, moving further into folk while retaining the soulful and gospel-inflected sound at the heart of her music.

“A classic R&B voice.... mining Stax and Atlantic's greatest hits.”
— Uncut

“FitzRoy is an independent artist with a superpower likeability, to be able to plug directly into your soul with her heady mix of spirit-lifting gospel, deftly delivered soul and enthralling blues type storytelling, which when mixed together, create pure 24 karat genre-defying alchemy.”
