About the Event
Timo Lassy is one of Europe’s leading saxophonists, a commanding performer whose rich tone and total dedication to his art, whatever the setting, have earned him widespread acclaim across the international jazz scene. Winner of Finland’s prestigious EMMA and Yrjö awards for Jazz Album of the Year and Jazz Musician of the Year respectively, Timo has also drawn praise from tastemakers including Gilles Peterson and DownBeat magazine.
His latest project, the Timo Lassy Trio, strips things back to their raw essentials. Joined by long-time collaborators Ville Herrala on bass and Jaska Lukkarinen on drums, the trio delivers dynamic, intuitive performances, shaped by the musical bond between the three players. Their acclaimed releases Trio and 2025 live album Live in Helsinki capture a group at the height of its powers, balancing hard-driving rhythms, lyrical improvisation and emotional depth with style.
Rooted in the spirit of classic jazz yet unmistakably contemporary, the Timo Lassy Trio brings intensity, warmth and world-class musicianship to every performance, proving that jazz played from the heart resonates everywhere.
“Lassy is a full-blooded soul-jazz player with a tone so broad you can fry steaks on it.”
— Jazzwise
“Lassy, an active bandleader in Finland, blows deep from the diaphragm... he sounds like he’s trying to canvas the entire ear with the forceful, broad sound that explodes from the bell of his horn.”
