About the Event

Vula Malinga, the queen of RnB and an integral part of Soul Family, brings her 90s groove and soul to this popular late-night slot. At her Late Late Shows, Vula curates a unique line-up of emerging soul and RnB talent, with some special guests often dropping in.

Hailed for her powerful voice and electrifying performances, Vula has worked with a variety of artists including Sam Smith, Becky Hill, Clean Bandit, MJ Cole, Lalah Hathaway, Adele, Dizzee Rascal, Robert Glasper, Kurt Elling, Mabel, Incognito, Sam Sparro but most recognised for her work and touring with Basement Jaxx, from 2003 until today. That collaboration opened the opportunity to write and create their 2005 Top 10 hit "Oh My Gosh!" and more.

Most recently, Vula has been working as the Vocal Musical Arranger and Director on the Quincy Jones Orchestral project birthed from the BBC Proms series in 2015 with Jules Buckley as well as also directing the vocalists as featured on the Ibiza Classics with legendary UK dance DJ Pete Tong and the Essential Orchestra.

Vula continues to work as the Vocal MD on BBC proms performances since 2015, which saw the introduction of her vocal ensemble “Vula’s Chorale,” a project that debuted for the Aretha Franklin Prom at the Royal Albert Hall in 2022 & featured again for the Stevie Wonder Prom in 2023.

Vula also lead the six-man vocal team for the successful BBC Northern Proms in July 2023 and was a featured artist in 2024’s BBC Disco Proms.

We have recently changed the vibe of our Thursday Late Late Shows by adding music influenced by jazz-funk, soul, R&B and hip hop. Hosts on Thursdays present their show with different guests each month, and a DJ will play sets before and after the live sets.

Most tickets for the Late Late Show are available on the door if advance tickets have sold out.

“The voice is limitless... Vula spills with musicality, often improvising with the band and ad-libbing intuitively.”
