EFG London Jazz Festival: The Vimala Rowe Quartet – Find Your World Album Launch featuring a Live Extract of Songs from the Forthcoming Debut Theatrical Show

Find Your World traces my journey through a life shaped by multiple “mothers” before being adopted by white academic parents. The music, poetry, and voices that carried me through both joyful and turbulent moments are woven throughout the project of original music. Influences from Billie Holiday to William Blake forming its emotional and artistic backbone.

Running through my original music is a golden thread of Jazz, Blues, African and Indian folk traditions, UK Indie and Soul. It carries the imprint of nine years spent living in Bangkok, where I became part of Thailand’s first rap band, followed by a year in Maharashtra, immersed in the study of North Indian classical music.

When I returned to England, I entered a period of reflection and retreat. In time, I re-emerged into the UK jazz scene, bringing these many strands of experience, sound and self with me.

Find Your World is a reflective tapestry: first finding the world within yourself, then finding the right people to share it with. Through this album, we, as a band, wish to elevate and inspire collectively.
