About the Event
Whether written for eight, nine or ten players, chamber music for wind instruments on this scale is an experience for the audience and performers alike. It opens up a rare sound world, rich in instrumental colour, at times almost orchestral, at others intimate and conversational. This is true of Beethoven’s festive Octet in E-flat major, Gustav Schreck’s Romantic Nonet and George Enescu’s richly textured Decet alike. All three works stand in the tradition of the divertimento, combining playful lightness with expressive depth.
