Darbar: Akash Parekar & Janan Sathiendran
Lineup
About the Event
Enjoy the magic of sitar and tabla in the heart of London, with sitar player Akash Parekar joined by Janan Sathiendran on tabla.
Experience the intricate melodies of the sitar and the rhythmic energy of the tabla in a conversation of tradition, emotion and artistry. Built on raga, a melodic framework tied to moods and times of day, and tala, the rhythmic cycle that underpins it, each performance unfolds through improvisation, beginning slowly and meditatively before building in tempo and intensity. The sitar, a long-necked plucked instrument with sympathetic strings that shimmer beneath the melody, is one of its most recognizable voices, known for its expressive bends and rich, resonant tone.
Hosted in the Barbican Centre foyer, this free event is part of the Darbar Festival 2026, open to all and perfect for music lovers of every background.
While enjoying the concert, explore the Darbar Pop-Up Market with Indian fashion, beauty, and lifestyle products from 11:00 – 20:00.
