Zwei Konzerte, zwei Berliner Ensembles und ein Abend zwischen zeitgenössischem Jazz, experimentellem Rock und freier Improvisation!
Mit TRYON und RESURRECTION CITY treffen zwei Formationen aufeinander, die komplexe Kompositionen mit offenen musikalischen Formen verbinden und dabei ganz unterschiedliche Klangwelten erschließen.
TRYON wurde 2020 vom US-amerikanischen Bassisten und Komponisten Kellen Mills in Berlin gegründet. Das elfköpfige Ensemble bewegt sich zwischen zeitgenössischem Jazz, Neuer Musik, experimentellem Rock, Noise und Elektronik. Präzise komponierte Passagen wechseln mit freier Improvisation, dichte Klangschichten mit fragilen Momenten. Mit zwei Stimmen, drei Saxophonen, Gitarre, Vibraphon, Elektronik und Rhythmusgruppe verfügt TRYON über eine außergewöhnlich vielseitige Besetzung. Die bisherigen Alben „Läuterung“ (2022) und „Freaky Squash Baby“ (2023) erschienen bei Double Moon Records.
RESURRECTION CITY ist das Quartett des griechischen Gitarristen, Komponisten und bildenden Künstlers Anastasios Savvopoulos. Die Band verbindet komplexe rhythmische Strukturen und treibende Grooves mit Jazz-Rock-Einflüssen und freier Improvisation. Saxophon, Gitarre, E-Bass und Schlagzeug entwickeln dabei eine Musik, in der ausgearbeitete Kompositionen immer wieder Raum für spontane Entwicklungen und klangliche Experimente lassen.
Two concerts, two Berlin-based ensembles and an evening spanning contemporary jazz, experimental rock and free improvisation! TRYON and RESURRECTION CITY bring together two distinct approaches to combining complex compositions with open musical forms, each exploring its own sonic territory.
TRYON was founded in Berlin in 2020 by American bassist and composer Kellen Mills. The eleven-piece ensemble moves between contemporary jazz, new music, experimental rock, noise and electronics. Carefully composed passages give way to free improvisation, while dense ensemble textures contrast with fragile, open moments. Featuring two vocalists, three saxophones, guitar, vibraphone, electronics and a rhythm section, TRYON draws on an unusually broad range of sounds and textures. The group has released two albums on Double Moon Records: “Läuterung” (2022) and “Freaky Squash Baby” (2023).
RESURRECTION CITY is a quartet led by Greek guitarist, composer and visual artist Anastasios Savvopoulos. The band combines intricate rhythmic structures and driving grooves with jazz-rock influences and free improvisation. Saxophone, guitar, electric bass and drums create music in which carefully developed compositions leave plenty of room for spontaneous interaction and sonic experimentation.
