Javus Quartett – ECHO Rising Star

Fanny and Felix Mendelssohn, sister and brother, were only three years apart in age and both received a musical education. Unlike her brother, however, Fanny faced greater obstacles in pursuing a professional career. Despite her immense talent as a pianist and composer, conservative Prussian society expected her to devote herself to life as a Hausfrau.  As a result, she was unable to travel, perform or publish her music. Despite these limitations, Fanny was exceptionally prolific: she composed more than 400 pieces, including an impressive string quartet. The Viennese Javus Quartett performs her refined work alongside an early and a late string quartet by Felix Mendelssohn. He wrote the latter, String Quartet No. 6 in F minor, Op. 80, as a tribute to his sister, just a few months before his death. 

Javus Quartett was named a Rising Star for the 2026-2027 season by the Wiener Konzerthaus, Musikverein Wien and Elbphiharmonie Hamburg within the ECHO network. As well as their performance at Bozar, they will be giving an intimate, acoustic concert for the residents of the Klein Kasteeltje, the reception centre for asylum seekers. After the private concert, there will. be time for the artist and the residents to meet, talk and share experiences.
